One of Us is Lying book review

Hi beauties,
Happy Sunday! I've spent my weekend getting stuff done. It's amazing how things build up during the week and how much life admin gets left behind.
Now that I'm all caught up, I can finally share my review for One of Us is Lying. Sit back, relax, and grab a calming cup of tea.

I'm not going to lie (ha, get it?), but the synopsis for One of Us is Lying had me hooked. Seriously, check it out:
"One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide."
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident.
On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder.
Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.
Pay close attention and you might solve this.

DOESN'T IT SOUND SO GOOD!? I'm happy to report the book 100 percent lives up to the synopsis. It was so good, I didn't want to put it down (my mum can back me up on this. I went home to see her for the weekend and I still couldn't put the book down - sorry mum!).

I really enjoyed that this was a multiple POV book. Each POV provided a different perspective and their own angle to the plot. The characters were so well thought-out there wasn't a time when I didn't want to read a different character's POV. Closer to the end of the book, their individual stories joined together nicely to provide a more cohesive narrative. As each secret was revealed and the characters flaws in full view, I really thought I had figured out the whole plot - boy was I wrong. I was left shocked right up until the last page.

For those of you who love a little love story, you won't be disappointed with one of Us is Lying. Through all the mystery and suspense, two of our main characters find their way to each other. I became so invested in their story I genuinely hope there is a sequel (please!?).

One of Us is Lying is a mix between The Breakfast Club, Pretty Little Liars and a little sprinkle of Gossip Girl. If this book got turned into a TV show, It would be a binge-hit! I can't wait to read more from Karen McManus in the future.

Available from Whitcoulls, PaperPlus and all good book stores.
